Even though Phyllis lived many places in the world as she was called,
she considered New Denver/Silverton as a home of Heart.
She was a major contributor to the Kohan gardens.
We are looking for some billets for friends coming from afar.
For information or offerings please contact Holly Biggar (250) 352-9365.

Frank Rackow and the Black Sea bring klezmer to the Slocan Valley!

Calgary-based band Frank Rackow and the Black Sea will bring their unique brand of klezmer (Eastern European Jewish party music) to Silverton this month. The music is both joyous and exotic. The lively melodies are great for dancing and the plaintive songs (in Yiddish and English) will touch the heart. To a mix of traditional tunes and original compositions, the band adds influences of folk, swing, funk and Balkan beats and is centred around the award-winning vocals of (former JUNO nominee) Allan Merovitz. Come enjoy a great night for the whole family!

Where: Silverton Gallery   When: Friday, July 19   7:30 pm
Admission:  $20 per person, 12 and under free, $30 per family

Supported and sponsored by Slocan Lake Arts Council and the BC Arts Council.

More about Black Sea:  Frank Rackow and The Black Sea play regularly in Calgary and have been featured on the main stage of the National Music Centre and on the Stephen Avenue Stage in downtown Calgary.
Allan Merovitz is a former JUNO nominee (with Toronto’s Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band)  and Dora Award winner (Toronto theatre)  and has recorded and toured with Canadian and European groups on both continents.
Frank Rackow has performed at festivals and clubs across the country with a variety of jazz and world music groups. He is the founding conductor of Calgary’s Vocal Latitudes choir and leads community klezmer ensembles at the Calgary Jewish Community Centre and the Mount Royal Conservatory.
Other band members on this tour include Greg Rumpel, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and teacher at the MRU Conservatory, as well as Robin Tufts, one of Calgary’s most accomplished and in-demand drummer/percussionists.
